The Circadian Light Kit

Your circadian system expects 10,000+ lux at sunrise and complete darkness at night. You give it 300 lux all day and screens until midnight. This kit fixes the signal — bright blue-enriched light in the morning, warm dim light in the evening, darkness for sleep.

Why this matters: Circadian rhythm controls cortisol (morning alertness), melatonin (evening sleepiness), and the timing of virtually every biological process. Broken circadian rhythm means unstable energy, poor sleep, and cognitive impairment — no matter how many hours you spend in bed.

The Daily Light Pattern

Morning (First Hour After Waking)

Goal: 10,000+ lux, blue-enriched (5000-6500K)

Suppresses melatonin, triggers cortisol, sets circadian phase for the day. Go outside (best) or use a 10,000 lux light therapy device.

Daytime

Goal: 500+ lux, neutral-to-cool (4000-5000K)

Maintain alert-state lighting. Position desk near windows. Supplement with bright overhead lighting. Take outdoor breaks.

Evening (2-3 Hours Before Bed)

Goal: <50 lux, warm (2700K or below)

Allow melatonin to rise. Dim lights progressively. Use warm bulbs only. Enable Night Shift on screens. Consider blue-blocking glasses.

Night (Sleep)

Goal: <1 lux, complete darkness

Blackout window treatments. Cover all LED standby lights. Red-only nightlights if needed for navigation.
